When there was no space to expand out, it was an opportunity to extend up.
The renovation of this mid-century townhouse focuses on reorganizing the functions of the home around a new atrium space called the Blackbox. The Blackbox creates a central shaft of light that connects three floors of the house.
The entire home was redesigned to accommodate an active family with distinct zones for work, play and rest. In addition to connecting the family, the Blackbox functions as a ‘hangout’ space which is perfect for watching TV or for sleepovers. The three-story shaft also doubles as a climbing wall, letting the kids explore the home in a new way.
